Using these ..... Tips For Using Images from your Digital Camera Before taking a picture, determine the quality of an image and how it can be used in a layout. Use the highest quality setting available on the camera. The pixel dimensions of an image identify the resolution. Dividing the pixel width and height by 300 determines the dpi. Divide by 400 for images with text. Here are just a few considerations when submitting your images or materials for Brochure printing: Q: How does a color match proof work? A: The printer will produce and send you a digital proof. Once you have approved the electronic proof they will produce and mail you a hard proof via overnight delivery. After you approve and mail the hard proof back, they will do everything possible to match the color of the proof when printing the final product. Q: Is there anything special I need to do for a 2 color job? A: It depends on whether or not your job is printed in four color process, or as a one or two color job. If you need print one or two colors, it is recommended using PMS (Pantone Matching System) colors, and your colors will match what is shown in the PMS books. This may or may not match what you see on your screen. If color is critical for the piece, you should think about purchasing your own PMS books. To make sure they print the correct color keep this in mind. If they print in full color or four color process, make sure that when you set up your file, you set it up in CMYK - NOT RGB. Make note of your printer's requirements when sending images. You may need to adjust your image, crop your image or customize your image in some cases before sending. Some commercial printing services for example, require images in .jpg format for example while others require images in certain sizes. Tips for Using Images from stock photography companies Know the image size required for your layout before you purchase stock photography online. Please read their information prior to purchase as it will determine, price, color, file size, copyrights, resolution and quality. Each image should be at a resolution of 300dpi for the final size in your layout. Reminder: get the image in CMYK color mode (rather than RGB) if possible.
