Tips For Using Images from your Digital Camera Before taking a picture, determine the quality of an image and how it can be used in a layout. Use the highest quality setting available on the camera. The pixel dimensions of an image identify the resolution. Dividing the pixel width and height by 300 determines the dpi. Divide by 400 for images with text.
Here are some tips to consider when placing an order at your bargain print shop:
Q: What if my image editing software does not tell me the pixel dimensions?
A: Most will, but if not, it should tell you what the resolution is. Then you know the maximum size you can use that image in your layout. It is recommend that images be at 300dpi in their final size in the layout and 400dpi if the images include text. Please keep in mind that resolution and physical dimensions are in direct proportion to each other. If you have an image that is 2x2 at 300dpi and increase its size in the layout to 4x4 the new resolution is now 150dpi. So remember, when you bring an image in to your layout you can shrink it down in size (because the resolution will increase) but you will be limited as to how far you can increase it in size.
Q: Can you explain the difference between RGB and CMYK formats?
A: RGB refers to the primary colors of light: (Red, Green and Blue), that are used in monitors, television screens, digital cameras and scanners. CMYK refers to the primary colors of pigment: (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black). These are the inks used on the press in "4-color process printing", commonly referred to as "full color printing".
The combination of RGB light creates white, while the combination of CMYK inks creates black. Therefore, it is physically impossible for the printing press to reproduce colors exactly as we see them on our monitors.
Q: How should I take pictures with my digital camera?
Getting Your Dayton Tri Fold TemplatesWhen creating custom brochures for your business you may benefit by taking advantage of the tools your online print shop has to offer. Common tools online printers offer include use of Custom brochure templates for creating custom ..... A: It is very important to make sure that the camera is set to the highest quality setting possible. This means that if you can only save one image on the picture card instead of 12, 64 or 128 images, then this is good! You want to create the best quality picture that the camera can make. This will mean large file sizes and slow downloads from the camera itself, but it will get you the best possible results from your camera.
Digital camera images are on 72 DPI, so they should be taken in the largest pixel dimension possible. ie… 2500 x 1500. Images should be at 300dpi in their final size in the layout! So you will need to convert them from 72 dpi to 300 once you add them to your layout.
Find out what type of files they prefer. Most gladly create documents from Word files and PowerPoint files, but check to make sure.
Make sure your printer sends you a proof of the final documents produced so you can verify their accuracy.
Check to see what other formats the printer accepts, as you may find others work better for you (like PDF files or Pagemaker files).
If your job requires the printer create an exact color match, make sure you verify a color proof first so the printer can make adjustments if necessary to your order.
Check to see how much bleed you need to allow for in certain cases, like for envelopes or custom brochures.
Tip: Is there a way to calculate the size you must reduce (shrink) an Internet image so that it will print the highest quality possible? Reduce the size to 24% of its original size. (Because 72dpi is 24% of the 300dpi resolution you want)
For Example: Internet Image that is 3 inches x 3 inches, at 72dpi You want to shrink it enough to get it to 300dpi for crisp printing 72 divided 300 = 0.24 3 inches x 0.24 = 0.72 inches
Ask your Raleigh, North Carolina bargain printer if they offer tips for designing your brochures or templates you can use to create your own business cards and brochures from with little or no hassle. Most will have some templates you can use.
